The Badiadka police arrested Ashwanth Acharya early Wednesday morning in connection with an extortion case. According to a senior officer at the Badiadka police station, Acharya befriended the complainant on Facebook. Over time, sexually explicit photos and videos were shared between the two. Acharya later used these materials to blackmail the complainant, threatening to post them online unless he paid money.

The complainant, a 30-year-old man who made his living performing religious ceremonies, paid a total of ₹10.5 lakh through mobile wallet and bank transfers. The situation escalated when Acharya demanded more money, prompting the complainant to approach the police.

During the investigation, the police discovered that Acharya led a lavish lifestyle, raising suspicions about his source of income. A case of extortion has been filed against him, and the authorities are further investigating if he has been involved in similar activities.
