Mangaluru: The Bajpe police have arrested two individuals in connection with a case involving the alleged cruel transportation of cattle in a car near Sasthavu Temple in Badaga Yedapadavu village. The arrests come after the accused had initially fled the scene, abandoning both the vehicle and the animals.

The arrested persons have been identified as Nisar alias Nisaruddin alias Parivala Nisar (28), a resident of Bhatrakere in Permude and originally from Pejavara Konchar, and Mohammed Jamaluddin alias Jamal (24), a resident of Akkodi House in Permanki, Ulaibettu.

Interception based on tip-off

According to police sources, the incident came to light following a tip-off regarding the illegal and inhumane transportation of cattle. Acting swiftly on the information, a police team from Bajpe intercepted a Toyota Fortuner vehicle near Sasthavu Temple in Badaga Yedapadavu village at approximately 4.45 am on March 18.

Upon stopping and inspecting the vehicle, the police discovered four cattle crammed inside the car in distressing conditions. Their legs were tightly bound, severely restricting movement and causing apparent suffering. Officials noted that the manner of transport violated animal welfare norms and raised serious concerns about cruelty.

Accused fled, leaving vehicle behind

As the police attempted to intervene, the individuals transporting the cattle reportedly fled the spot, abandoning the vehicle and the animals. The sudden escape prompted an immediate search operation, and the cattle were rescued from the vehicle.

The police later secured the abandoned Fortuner and initiated a detailed investigation into the matter. The rescued cattle were provided necessary care, and arrangements were made to ensure their safety.

Weapons and property seized

During the inspection of the vehicle, the police also recovered a sword and an iron rod, which were seized as part of the investigation. The presence of these weapons has raised additional concerns regarding the intent and possible activities of the accused.

Authorities confirmed that properties worth approximately ₹8.42 lakh have been confiscated in connection with the case. This includes the vehicle and other items found at the scene.
