Beltangady: Police have arrested two men who were allegedly attempting to sell drugs near the government high school ground at Guruvayanakere and seized MDMA and ganja from their possession, according to Daijiworld.
The arrested men have been identified as Tvalha alias Ajjar alias Ansar, 21, a resident of Sunnath Kere in Kuvettu village, and Ibrahim, 29, a resident of Pilichandikallu.
The arrests were made after police reportedly noticed a group of four people standing near two-wheelers in a hilly and wooded area close to the school ground. When the police approached them, the group allegedly attempted to flee.
Police chased the group and managed to apprehend two of the men, while two others reportedly escaped from the spot.
MDMA and ganja seized
According to the report, police recovered MDMA worth ₹5,000 from Ansar. They also seized 29 grams of ganja from Ibrahim.
The seizure followed the police operation near the government high school ground in Guruvayanakere, where the four men had allegedly gathered with two-wheelers.
The recovery of two different types of suspected narcotic substances has led to further investigation into the alleged drug-peddling activity in the area.
Two others reportedly flee
While Ansar and Ibrahim were caught by the police, two other suspects reportedly managed to escape when officers approached the group.
The absconding suspects have been identified as Hamzath Karar and Naushad. Beltangady police have continued efforts to trace and apprehend the two men, according to the report.
The investigation is expected to establish whether the suspects were allegedly involved in a wider drug-peddling network or whether the incident was limited to the individuals apprehended at the spot.
Police continue investigation
The arrests come amid continued police action against the possession and alleged sale of narcotic substances in parts of Dakshina Kannada.
In this case, the police action began after officers noticed the suspicious movement of four people near the school ground. The wooded and hilly location reportedly prompted the group to attempt to flee when police approached.
The seizure of MDMA and ganja has now become part of the investigation, while efforts are continuing to locate the two suspects who escaped.
The allegations against the arrested men are yet to be established in court. Their arrest and the seizure of suspected narcotics do not by themselves establish guilt, and further legal proceedings and investigation will determine the circumstances of the case.
Police are continuing their search for Hamzath Karar and Naushad as the investigation into the alleged drug-peddling case proceeds.
