Bantwal: Police have arrested a Bengaluru resident for allegedly posting an objectionable and communally sensitive comment on social media that was deemed capable of disturbing communal harmony.

According to police, the accused had posted the controversial comment on a Facebook post through a page named “Sanathani Simha”. The content was later flagged as inflammatory, prompting legal action on the grounds that it could incite communal discord and disturb public peace.

Case registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita

Following a complaint, the Vittal police registered a case on September 18, 2025, under Crime No. 131/2025 and invoked Section 353(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.

Police launched an investigation into the matter and began gathering digital evidence related to the social media post. Officials said the content had the potential to create communal tensions and therefore warranted immediate legal action.

The case remained under investigation for several months as police traced the origin of the comment and identified the individual allegedly responsible for posting it.

Accused traced to Bengaluru

After sustained inquiry, police arrested the accused, identified as Anand A, on June 27, 2026.

The accused is a resident of Vidyamanya Nagar in Bengaluru. Following his arrest, he was produced before the jurisdictional court in accordance with legal procedure.

Officials said the arrest was made after verifying digital evidence and establishing the accused’s connection with the objectionable post.

Police cite previous cases

Investigations have further revealed that the accused is allegedly a habitual offender in similar cases involving objectionable content circulated on social media platforms.

According to police, as many as seven cases have been registered against him at different police stations across Karnataka for allegedly posting or sharing inflammatory and objectionable content in the past.

Authorities said his previous records were also examined during the investigation, which helped establish a pattern of alleged involvement in similar offences.

Investigation continues

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether any other individuals were involved in creating or disseminating the controversial content.

Authorities have reiterated that strict action will be taken against persons who misuse social media platforms to post content capable of inciting communal disharmony or disturbing public order.

The arrest comes amid increased monitoring of online activities by law enforcement agencies, with police urging citizens to exercise caution and responsibility while using social media platforms.
