A young man from Bengaluru, who allegedly tried to get ‘friendly’ with a woman working at a post office, was handed over to the Vittal police in Dakshina Kannada on Saturday. According to police sources, the man, who had come home to celebrate a festival, visited the post office on Friday to purchase some stamps. During the visit, he attempted to engage in a conversation with a female staff member.
He made his payments through a QR code and, after paying extra money, suggested that she keep the change. He then gave her Rs 50 to buy ice cream and asked for her phone number. Sensing his intentions, the woman cleverly provided a number belonging to a male relative. The relative then pretended to be the woman and continued chatting with the man, even as the conversation turned inappropriate and vulgar.
The following day, the man expressed his desire to meet in person, believing the woman was also interested. He arrived at the meeting spot with ice cream and chocolates, only to be confronted by a group of people who had been alerted to the situation. The police were informed, and the man was taken into custody.
While the woman chose not to file a formal complaint, the police obtained a written undertaking from the man. No formal case was registered, according to authorities.
