Mangaluru: The Biruver Kudla organisation celebrated the 80th Independence Day at Brahmashree Narayana Guru Circle in Mangaluru on Saturday, with former BJP state president and former MP Nalin Kumar Kateel hoisting the national flag.
The programme brought together members and office-bearers of the organisation to commemorate India’s Independence and remember the sacrifices made during the country’s freedom struggle.
Kateel recalls sacrifices of freedom fighters
Delivering the Independence Day message, Nalin Kumar Kateel said the freedom enjoyed by citizens today was the result of peaceful and non-violent struggles, revolutionary movements and the sacrifices of lakhs of Indians.
He said the country’s freedom had been achieved through the determination and sacrifices of generations of Indians who fought for the nation’s independence.
Kateel said India was moving towards the Amrit Kaal under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He called upon citizens to contribute in whatever way possible towards the overall development of the country.
He stressed the need for collective participation in nation-building and urged people to join hands in building a strong India.
According to Kateel, the responsibilities of citizens do not end with celebrating Independence Day. He said every individual has a role to play in strengthening the country’s development and contributing to society.
Praise for Biruver Kudla’s social initiatives
Kateel also praised the activities of Biruver Kudla and its founder president Uday Poojary Ballalbagh.
He noted that the organisation has been working to support socially and economically weaker sections of society. Apart from providing assistance to those in need, the organisation has also been involved in promoting cultural programmes and various other social activities.
Kateel said such initiatives could serve as an example to other organisations and individuals.
He appreciated the efforts of the members of Biruver Kudla in carrying out activities aimed at supporting sections of society that require assistance.
The organisation’s social and cultural programmes, he said, demonstrated the importance of community participation and voluntary service.
Retired soldier remembers martyrs
Retired soldier Praveen Shetty of Karkala also addressed the gathering and spoke about the significance of Independence Day.
Shetty said the freedom enjoyed by Indians today stands as a symbol of the sacrifices and martyrdom of those who fought for the country.
He stressed that remembering the people who made sacrifices for India’s freedom is a collective responsibility.
“We are experiencing freedom as a symbol of sacrifice and martyrdom,” Shetty said, emphasising the need for citizens to remember and pay their respects to those who gave their lives for the nation.
He also appreciated the social and cultural activities undertaken by Biruver Kudla and acknowledged the organisation’s contribution to the community.
Community participation marks celebrations
The Independence Day programme also highlighted the role played by community organisations in bringing people together on important national occasions.
Biruver Kudla’s celebration at Brahmashree Narayana Guru Circle provided an opportunity for its members and supporters to come together and reflect on the significance of India’s freedom.
The participation of social workers, office-bearers and members also underlined the organisation’s community-oriented activities.
The programme combined the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony with messages emphasising patriotism, social responsibility and national development.

Rakesh Poojary Ballalbagh, Praveen Suvarna Bagambila, Jitesh Jain, Darshan Jain, Latish Ballalbagh, Sahana Kundar, Vidya Rakesh, Lohith Gatti, Dhanaraj Chilimbi, Manoj Shetty, Vasanth Poojary, Pramod Ballalbagh, Kishore Babu, Renith Raj, Rakesh Chilimbi, Girish Batteri, Ashwin Chilimbi, Ganesh Chilimbi and Mahesh Chilimbi were also present.
Other office-bearers and members of the organisation participated in the Independence Day celebrations.
The event served as both a commemoration of India’s freedom and an acknowledgement of the continuing responsibility of citizens towards the country’s development.
