The Dakshina Kannada BJP unit staged a protest on Tuesday at the Ambedkar statue near Kudmul Rangarao Town Hall, Mangaluru, condemning Deputy Chief Minister and KPCC President D.K. Shivakumar’s statement on constitutional amendments.
Demand for Apology
BJP workers raised slogans against DK Shivakumar and the state government, insisting that he publicly apologize for his remarks. They argued that any discussion about altering the Constitution is unacceptable and called for a clear clarification.
Leaders Join the Protest
The demonstration witnessed participation from several key BJP leaders, including District BJP President Satish Kumpala, MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Dr. Y. Bharath Shetty, Umanath Kotian, Harish Poonja, and Bhagirathi Murulya. MLC Kishore Kumar Botyadi, former MLCs Capt. Ganesh Karnik and Monappa Bhandari, District Mahila Morcha President Dr. Manjula Rao, Yuva Morcha District President Nandan Mallya, along with Jagannath Beluvayi and Ganesh Gowda, were also present.
Strong Opposition to Constitutional Changes
BJP office-bearers, ex-Mangaluru City Corporation members, and party workers from across the district joined the protest, reinforcing the party’s firm stand against any modifications to the Constitution. They vowed to continue their agitation until DK Shivakumar addresses their concerns.
