Families in Kettikal near Vamanjoor are grappling with hardships due to ongoing roadwork. Although they own the land, National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials ordered them to leave their homes without notice, creating an urgent crisis.
The district administration had assured affected residents alternative housing arrangements and a monthly rent of ₹20,000 from the relevant department. Trusting these assurances, families vacated their homes and shifted into rented spaces. However, the support they were promised has not been consistently delivered.
While the residents received the first month’s rent, subsequent payments never arrived. Local officials and politicians have since failed to engage with the community or address their growing grievances, leaving many in a precarious situation.
This breach of trust has sparked outrage, as the displaced families struggle to cover housing expenses and rebuild their lives. Calls for accountability from the district administration and local leaders have gone unanswered, deepening the residents’ sense of abandonment.
The situation highlights the critical need for authorities to honor commitments and support citizens affected by development projects. Kettikal’s displaced residents remain in limbo, hoping their voices will finally be heard.
