In Mangaluru, the Bunts community is raising concerns over what they perceive as unjust treatment in the reservation system. Despite eligibility for inclusion in Category 2(A) of the state’s reservation list, the community finds itself placed in Category 3(B), leading to a loss of benefits in various spheres.

Call for Rectification

Maladi Ajith Kumar Rai, president of the Bunts Yane Nadavara Matru Sangha, highlighted this misplacement during the 103rd Annual General Body Meeting of the Bunts Matru Sangha in Mangaluru. He emphasized the detrimental impact on education, employment, social, and political sectors due to this discrepancy.

Global Initiative for Representation

Rai outlined the community’s efforts to address this issue on a global scale. The organization is gathering comprehensive data under the initiative named ‘Bandhavya’ to establish a ‘World Bunt Information Repository.’ This repository aims to shed light on the cultural, social, economic, educational, and various other aspects of Bunts globally.

Advocating for Change

The ultimate goal of this repository is to advocate for the inclusion of the Bunt community in the central government’s reservation list and to move them from Category 3(B) to Category 2(A) in the state’s reservation list. By presenting an accurate picture of the community’s situation, they aim to draw the government’s attention to their rightful place in the reservation system.

Accessible Information Hub

Rai highlighted that this repository will serve as a comprehensive source of information about the Bunts community worldwide. Accessible through social media platforms, it aims to empower community members by providing easy access to relevant data regardless of their location.
