Beltangady: A major road accident was averted in Sulkeri village of Beltangady taluk on Friday morning after a car crashed into an electric pole and was completely mangled in the impact. Fortunately, the occupants of the vehicle escaped with only minor injuries despite the severity of the accident.

According to available information, the accident occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 26, when a Maruti Suzuki car was travelling along the highway passing through Sulkeri village. The driver reportedly lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road and ram into an electric pole on the roadside.

The impact of the collision was extremely severe. The concrete electric pole snapped and collapsed onto the vehicle, leaving the car extensively damaged. The front portion of the vehicle, including the bonnet, bumper and engine compartment, was completely crushed.

Passengers sustain minor injuries

Despite the extensive damage to the car, the passengers inside had a miraculous escape and suffered only minor injuries. Local residents and passers-by rushed to the scene immediately after the accident and assisted in rescuing the occupants from the damaged vehicle.

The injured passengers were later shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. However, police officials are yet to release detailed information regarding the number of occupants in the vehicle and their exact medical condition.

The incident has once again highlighted the importance of cautious driving, particularly during the early morning hours when visibility and road conditions can contribute to accidents.

Power disruption after electric wires snap

The accident also led to disruption in electricity supply in the area. The force of the collision caused live electric wires to snap and fall onto the road, posing an additional danger to motorists and local residents.

On receiving information about the incident, personnel from the Mangalore Electricity Supply Company (Mescom) rushed to the spot and immediately initiated repair works to restore power supply and ensure public safety.

Authorities temporarily restricted movement near the accident site until the damaged power lines were secured and necessary repairs were carried out.

Police inspect accident spot

Personnel from the Beltangady Traffic Police Station visited the spot soon after the incident and conducted a detailed inspection. Police have begun gathering information regarding the circumstances that led to the crash.

Preliminary findings suggest that the driver may have lost control of the vehicle before it hit the electric pole. However, the exact cause of the accident is yet to be officially confirmed.

The mangled condition of the car underscored the intensity of the impact and served as a reminder of the potential consequences of road accidents. Fortunately, the incident did not result in any fatalities or serious injuries.

Conclusion

Although the accident left the vehicle completely wrecked and caused a temporary power outage in Sulkeri village, the safe escape of the passengers with minor injuries has been described by locals as nothing short of miraculous. Police are continuing their inquiry into the incident.
