Beltangady: The Dharmasthala Police have registered a criminal case against two persons following allegations that they pelted stones at a house, abused the occupants, issued life threats and allegedly took away cash from the premises at Shibaje in Beltangady taluk.
The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Eliyamma Thomas (60), a resident of Shibaje. Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which allegedly occurred on the night of July 10.
Complaint lodged by Shibaje resident
According to the complaint, Eliyamma Thomas was at her residence along with her family members when the incident took place.
She alleged that two persons, identified as Manoj N.K. and Raju, arrived near the house late at night and began pelting stones at the tiled roof, causing panic among the family members.
The complainant further stated that the accused allegedly used abusive language while standing outside the house and created a disturbance in the locality.
Allegations of threats and theft
The complaint also alleges that the accused threatened Eliyamma’s son with dire consequences during the incident.
In addition to the alleged intimidation, Manoj is accused of taking away Rs 2,900 in cash that had reportedly been kept on the verandah of the house.
Police have treated the allegations seriously and initiated legal proceedings based on the complaint. The exact sequence of events and the circumstances surrounding the alleged theft are expected to be established during the course of the investigation.
Police register BNS case
Based on the complaint, the Dharmasthala Police registered a case in Crime No. 50/2026 under Section 329(3) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Investigating officers have begun collecting evidence and recording statements from the complainant, witnesses and other persons connected to the case.
Police are also expected to verify the allegations regarding the stone-pelting, criminal intimidation and the reported theft of cash.

Officials said further investigation is in progress to ascertain all the facts related to the complaint. Appropriate legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
As the matter is under investigation, the allegations mentioned in the complaint are yet to be established in court.
