Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police have arrested another accused in connection with the murder of Arif Hussain alias Tablet Arif, a resident of Uchila Mullugudde, under the jurisdiction of Ullal police station. The arrest marks a further development in the ongoing investigation into the March murder case, which is being probed under provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA).
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Ibrahim Sinan alias Chinnu (21), a resident of Padil in Mangaluru. Police stated that he is the brother of slain rowdy-sheeter Toppi Naufal.
Murder took place on Thokkottu flyover
According to police, the incident took place during the early hours of March 27 when Arif Hussain was travelling on a motorcycle over the Thokkottu flyover.
Investigators said that miscreants travelling in a car allegedly knocked him down before attacking him with deadly weapons. Arif sustained severe injuries in the attack and died as a result.
Following the incident, the accused allegedly abandoned the vehicle used in the crime at Budoli in Bantwal taluk and escaped from the scene.
Initially, a case was registered at Ullal police station before being transferred to the Mangaluru City Crime Branch for a detailed investigation.
Investigation reveals alleged role in conspiracy
Police said the latest arrest came following findings during the course of the investigation into the case.
According to investigators, Mohammed Ibrahim Sinan was allegedly present during meetings linked to the conspiracy to murder Arif Hussain in February 2026.
Police further alleged that he had provided financial assistance to those accused in carrying out the murder on March 27.
Officials said the role of each accused was being examined as part of the wider investigation into the case.
Accused allegedly involved in other cases
Police stated that the arrested accused is also involved in two other criminal cases.
These include an attempt to murder case registered at Kankanady Town police station in 2025 and an assault case registered at Mangaluru North police station in 2024.
Authorities said these details emerged during verification of the accused’s background and criminal records.
Multiple arrests already made in the case
The police had earlier arrested several accused in connection with the murder case.
Those arrested earlier include Mohammed Rifath Ali, Ibrahim Khalil, Ashfaq alias Juttu Ashfaq, Ummar Farooq Irfan, Mohammed Shakir, Mohammed Rizwan alias Rizwan, Mohammed Irshad alias Akudu, Mohammed Harshad, Nishaq alias Pucche Nishaq, B. Junaid alias Kokkada Junaid and Mohammed Suhail alias Chiya.
Police produced the accused before the court following their arrest.
Investigation continues under KCOCA
Authorities stated that all accused arrested so far are presently in judicial custody.
The investigation is currently being conducted under the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA), indicating that investigators are examining broader aspects of organised criminal involvement in the case.
Police said further investigation is underway to establish additional details and determine the complete sequence of events related to the murder.
