Mangaluru: With the monsoon rains sweeping across Karnataka, local police have issued a public safety notice, warning residents about an increase in burglary and theft cases during the wet season.

The notorious ‘Chaddi Gang’—a criminal group from North India infamous for breaking into homes wearing only undergarments to avoid identification—has reportedly become active once again. Several theft incidents linked to this gang have already been reported in nearby districts, including Udupi, Madikeri, and Chikkamagaluru, over the past week.

Authorities suspect the group may be planning to target homes in Mangaluru next.

In response, the police have called on the public to remain on high alert, particularly those residing in isolated homes or at the dead ends of streets, which are more vulnerable to break-ins.

Residents are advised to secure doors and windows, install basic security measures if possible, and avoid leaving valuables unattended.

The police have also requested that citizens immediately report any unknown or suspicious individuals seen roaming in residential areas, especially during late hours or bad weather.

Officials emphasized that early reporting can help prevent crimes and assist in swift action. The community’s cooperation, they added, is crucial in deterring such criminal activity during this season.
