Mangaluru: The Karnataka government has carried out a major reshuffle in the police department, transferring several senior IPS officers and assigning them new responsibilities. As part of the latest changes, Chetan R, a 2010-batch IPS officer, has been appointed as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) of the Western Range.
The reshuffle also saw Amit Singh, who was serving as IGP of the Western Range, being transferred and appointed as IGP of the State Reserve Police.
Meanwhile, Mithun H N, who was serving as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City, has been transferred and appointed as the Superintendent of Police of Gadag district.
Chetan R takes charge of Western Range
Chetan R’s appointment as the IGP of the Western Range comes as part of the state government’s latest exercise to reorganise the senior police administration.
As a 2010-batch IPS officer, he will take over the responsibilities previously handled by Amit Singh in the Western Range. The transfer is expected to bring new leadership to the range-level police administration.
The Western Range is an important police jurisdiction, and the IGP plays a key role in supervising policing, maintaining law and order and coordinating with district-level police officers under the range.
The government order transferring Amit Singh and appointing Chetan R marks a change in the top leadership of the Western Range as part of the wider reshuffle involving senior IPS officers.
Amit Singh shifted to State Reserve Police
Amit Singh has been transferred from the post of IGP, Western Range, and appointed as IGP of the State Reserve Police.
The State Reserve Police plays an important role in supporting law enforcement and maintaining public order, particularly during situations requiring additional police deployment.
With his new appointment, Amit Singh will move from range-level police administration to the State Reserve Police, while Chetan R will assume the responsibilities of the Western Range.
The latest reshuffle reflects the state government’s effort to make changes in senior police postings and assign officers to different areas of responsibility.
Mithun H N appointed Gadag SP
In another significant change affecting the city police administration, Mithun H N has been transferred from his post as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City.
He has now been appointed as the Superintendent of Police of Gadag district.
During his tenure as DCP (Law and Order), Mithun H N was responsible for handling law and order-related matters in Mangaluru City. His transfer has resulted in the post falling vacant.
As of the latest government order, no officer has been appointed as the new Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Mangaluru City.
Key Mangaluru post remains vacant
The vacancy in the DCP (Law and Order) post is expected to be an important administrative development for Mangaluru City Police, given the responsibilities associated with maintaining public order and coordinating policing arrangements in the city.
The state government is yet to announce the officer who will replace Mithun H N in the position.
The transfer and appointment of senior officers are part of a wider police reshuffle by the Karnataka government. While Chetan R will take over as the new IGP of the Western Range, Amit Singh will move to the State Reserve Police, and Mithun H N will assume charge as the SP of Gadag.
Further appointments may be made to fill the vacant DCP (Law and Order) post in Mangaluru City.
