Authorities have initiated a criminal case over a reportedly inflammatory social media post connected to the 2022 killing of Mohammed Fazil in Surathkal, as confirmed by police on Friday.
The controversy centers around an Instagram reel that emerged from a specific user account, showcasing photos of Fazil accompanied by the message, “Miss You Faasil”. The post quickly drew attention due to a disturbing reply beneath it.
An individual using the handle bazigar8614 replied to the tribute with an alarming comment: “This is not the end, four more to go.” The cryptic and menacing nature of the statement raised serious red flags within the law enforcement community.
In response, officials filed a case at Ullal Police Station under multiple provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, India’s updated criminal code. The case has since been handed over to the City Crime, Economic Offences and Narcotics (CEN) Police Station for specialized examination.
As part of the investigation, police have managed to trace one of the followers linked to the original Instagram account. The individual has been identified as Mohammad Akram, a resident of Haleyangady near Mangaluru. He is currently undergoing questioning to ascertain his role, if any, in the matter.
Officials stated that the inquiry remains ongoing, with digital forensics and further tracking of social media activity underway to determine the origin and intent behind the provocative remark.
