Mangaluru: The state police have transferred the investigation into the suicide case of Somanath Putran (48), a resident of Hosabettu and a member of the Mogaveera community, along with two related cases, to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

State Director General of Police Dr M A Saleem issued the transfer order on Tuesday, directing the CID to take over the investigation into all three cases registered at the Surathkal police station.

The cases comprise two criminal cases and one Unnatural Death Report (UDR) case connected to the incident. The transfer is intended to facilitate further investigation by the state-level investigative agency.

DGP issues order transferring three cases

According to the order issued by Dr M A Saleem, the investigation into all three cases will now be handled by the CID.

The cases were initially registered at the Surathkal police station following the death of Somanath Putran, 48, who hailed from Hosabettu and belonged to the Mogaveera community.

The transfer brings the related criminal cases and the UDR investigation under a single investigative agency. The CID will undertake further examination of the cases and the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Mangaluru police directed to hand over documents

As part of the transfer process, the Mangaluru City Police Commissioner has been directed to hand over all files and documents related to the three cases to the CID investigating officer.

The records will enable the CID to take up the investigation based on the material already collected by the local police and proceed with further investigative steps.

With the transfer order issued, the CID will now examine the cases registered at Surathkal police station.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances surrounding Putran’s death and examine the issues covered under the two related criminal cases. Further details are awaited as the CID takes up the probe.
