Bantwal: A Class 5 student of Government Higher Primary School at Narikombu in Bantwal taluk has won praise for his presence of mind after helping prevent a serious injury to a member of the school’s Akshara Dasoha (midday meal) staff.
The incident occurred when the staff member accidentally got her fingers caught in an electrically operated coconut-grating machine.
Student acts quickly to prevent injury
The staff member reportedly began screaming for help after her fingers became trapped in the machine.
On hearing the cries, student Manvith immediately understood the seriousness of the situation and switched off the power supply.
His quick action stopped the machine and potentially prevented the staff member from suffering a more serious injury.
The boy’s prompt response was appreciated by people who came to know about the incident.
Chief Minister praises Manvith
Chief Minister D K Shivakumar also praised the student for his alertness and presence of mind.
In a social media post, Shivakumar said Manvith’s timely decision had helped save the cooking staff member’s finger.
“A moment of alertness and a timely decision by the boy saved the finger of a member of the cooking staff,” he said.
The Chief Minister praised the student’s humanity, courage and presence of mind and wished him a bright future.
He also expressed hope that Manvith would grow into a responsible citizen who contributes to the welfare of society and brings pride to Karnataka.
The incident has highlighted how quick thinking and awareness, even at a young age, can make a significant difference during an emergency.
