Mangaluru: A college student has been arrested in Mangaluru for allegedly bringing ganja into a hostel, as police continue their drive against drug abuse and peddling among students in the coastal city.
The arrest comes amid intensified anti-drug enforcement in educational institutions following recent police operations and awareness campaigns targeting narcotics use among students in Mangaluru.
Ganja allegedly found in hostel
According to police, the student was found in possession of ganja inside the hostel premises. Following the seizure, the accused was taken into custody and booked under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Police have launched an investigation to determine where the contraband was sourced from and whether other individuals were involved in supplying or distributing narcotics.
Anti-drug drive continues
The incident comes as Mangaluru police continue to intensify surveillance around colleges and hostels. In recent weeks, authorities have conducted surprise drug screening of students and cracked down on alleged drug peddling networks targeting educational institutions.
Officials have repeatedly appealed to educational institutions, hostel authorities and parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug abuse.

Police are examining the circumstances under which the narcotic substance was brought into the hostel and are verifying whether the accused acted alone or had links to a wider network.
