Incident reported from Belalu village

The deceased has been identified as Rama (19), daughter of Dinesh Naik and Revathi, residents of Mayada Balamandikallu in Belalu village of Beltangady taluk.

According to preliminary reports, Rama allegedly consumed poison at her residence on the night of April 19. Family members, upon discovering her condition, immediately arranged for her to be shifted to a hospital in Mangaluru for emergency medical treatment.

Hospitalisation and death

Rama was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru, where she remained under treatment for several days. Despite medical efforts, she failed to recover and passed away on April 29.

Hospital sources indicated that her condition had been critical since admission, and she did not respond adequately to treatment during her stay.

Student background

Rama was a second-year degree student at a college in Vamadapadavu. Described as a young student with academic aspirations, her untimely death has deeply affected her family, friends, and the local community.

Sources suggest that she may have been dealing with personal issues prior to the incident. It is learnt that she was in a relationship with a young man, and investigators suspect that emotional or personal distress linked to this may have contributed to the alleged suicide attempt. However, officials have not confirmed the exact cause or motive.

Police register case

Following her death, a case of unnatural death was registered at the Dharmasthala police station on April 30. Police have begun an inquiry to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.

Authorities are expected to record statements from family members, friends, and others who may have had contact with Rama prior to the incident. They will also examine any possible evidence, including communication records, to determine whether any external factors played a role.

Rising concern over student mental health

The incident has once again highlighted concerns surrounding mental health among young students, particularly in cases involving emotional stress and personal relationships. Experts often stress the importance of timely support, counselling, and open communication to help individuals cope with distress.

Local residents and community members have expressed grief over the tragic loss, urging greater awareness and support systems for youth facing emotional challenges.
