Puttur, Aug 20: A disturbing incident occurred at Kombettu Government Pre-University College on Tuesday when a first-year PUC student was allegedly stabbed by a fellow student. The attack, involving a sharp weapon, has led to heightened tensions as leaders from both students’ communities gathered outside the hospital where the injured girl is being treated.

The victim, from Bannur, and the accused, from a village near Kabaka, were classmates in history, studying in the commerce and arts streams, respectively. They were not well-acquainted, and the exact motive behind the stabbing remains unclear. Reports suggest that a minor argument escalated into violence, with the stabbing occurring on the road to the Puttur main post office before college hours. There are conflicting accounts regarding whether the incident continued into the classroom.

Following the stabbing, the city police reviewed CCTV footage and collected statements from witnesses. The accused student has been taken into custody for further questioning. Security measures have been heightened outside the hospital due to concerns of communal tensions, fueled by social media discussions.

The injured student has alleged that a college lecturer attempted to downplay the incident by attributing the injury to broken glass, leading to demands for the lecturer’s suspension and legal action. The college principal, Gopal, has stated that the incident did not occur within the college premises and emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway.
