Mangaluru: A complaint has been lodged with the Pandeshwar police after the husband of a 53-year-old woman alleged that her 32-gram gold karimani chain went missing shortly after she was declared dead at Wenlock Hospital. Police have registered the complaint and are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the alleged disappearance of the jewellery.
Woman suffered chest pain
The deceased has been identified as Janaki (53), wife of Sundara Poojary, a resident of Shaktinagar.
According to the complaint, Janaki developed severe chest pain on the morning of July 26. Her family immediately rushed her to a private hospital in Mangaluru in an auto-rickshaw for emergency medical treatment.
However, as a cardiologist was not available at the private hospital, doctors advised that she be shifted to Wenlock Hospital for specialised care.
Declared dead at emergency ward
After being taken to the emergency ward at Wenlock Hospital, Janaki was examined by doctors.
The attending medical team declared her dead shortly after the examination, bringing the family’s efforts to secure emergency treatment to a tragic end.
Following the formalities at the hospital, the family later examined the body before making arrangements for the final rites.
Gold chain allegedly missing
In his complaint to the Pandeshwar police, Sundara Poojary stated that his wife had been wearing a gold karimani chain weighing around 32 grams when she was first taken to the private hospital.
The family allegedly discovered that the chain was missing when they later checked her body. Claiming that the jewellery had disappeared while she was being moved between hospitals or during treatment, he requested the police to conduct a detailed investigation.
The complainant urged the authorities to identify the person responsible for removing the chain and recover the missing ornament.
Police begin inquiry
Based on the complaint filed on August 1, the Pandeshwar police have initiated an inquiry into the alleged disappearance of the gold chain.
Investigators are expected to verify the sequence of events from the time Janaki was admitted to the private hospital until she was declared dead at Wenlock Hospital. They are also likely to examine hospital records, speak to staff members and review any available CCTV footage as part of the investigation.
Police have not yet announced any arrests or confirmed how or when the jewellery went missing.
The investigation is underway, and further action will depend on the findings of the inquiry.
