With the monsoon season approaching, concerns have been raised regarding the durability of the newly constructed NH 169 road from Gurpur to Savanur Karkala. While the section between Gurpur Bridge and Nooyi currently appears to be in decent condition, there are growing doubts about how well it will endure heavy rainfall.
A major issue is the absence of retaining walls on either side of the road. The road’s foundation relies entirely on a mud base, which has already shown signs of erosion following pre-monsoon showers. If necessary precautions aren’t taken soon, this erosion could potentially lead to road collapse.
Despite the surface appearing well-constructed, the lack of proper reinforcement—particularly retaining walls—poses a serious risk. The soil along the edges is slowly washing away, leaving the freshly laid road increasingly susceptible to damage.
Authorities are being urged to inspect the site as soon as possible and implement preventive measures to safeguard the road from potential collapse during the impending monsoon season.
