Mangaluru: Ahead of the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections, a high-level meeting of Congress leaders and workers was held at the Dakshina Kannada district Congress office on April 2, with a strong focus on boosting support for the United Democratic Front (UDF) candidates in key border constituencies.
The meeting was led by senior Congress leader and former minister B Ramanath Rai, who called upon party workers to intensify efforts and ensure electoral success for UDF nominees in neighbouring Kerala.
Focus on border constituencies
Discussions during the meeting centred on formulating a comprehensive campaign strategy for crucial constituencies, including Manjeshwar, Kasargod, Uduma, and Thrikaripur. These regions, located along the Karnataka–Kerala border, are considered strategically significant due to their demographic and cultural links with Dakshina Kannada.
Addressing the gathering, B Ramanath Rai highlighted the importance of these segments in shaping the overall electoral outcome. He directed party leaders to deploy experienced workers and senior functionaries to these constituencies to ensure a well-coordinated and impactful campaign.
Call for intensified campaign
Party leaders were urged to adopt a proactive approach by engaging directly with voters and strengthening grassroots-level mobilisation. The emphasis was on running an organised, swift, and result-oriented campaign to consolidate support for UDF candidates.
According to party sources, the Congress high command has instructed the Dakshina Kannada unit to play an active role in campaigning across the border. Leaders were encouraged to leverage the strong cultural, linguistic, and social ties between Dakshina Kannada and the Kasargod region to connect with voters more effectively.
Strengthening cross-border political outreach
The meeting underscored the importance of cross-border political coordination, especially in constituencies where Kannada and Tulu-speaking populations have a notable presence. Leaders believe that these shared cultural connections can be a key factor in influencing voter sentiment.
Party workers were also asked to coordinate closely with their counterparts in Kerala to ensure consistency in messaging and campaign execution.
Conclusion
With the Kerala Assembly elections approaching, the Congress party has stepped up its preparations by mobilising its Dakshina Kannada unit to support UDF candidates in key constituencies. The strategy reflects a focused effort to maximise electoral gains in border regions through coordinated campaigning and grassroots outreach.
The coming weeks are expected to witness intensified political activity in these areas as parties gear up for a crucial electoral battle.
