Mangaluru: Residents of Bengre, a coastal locality nestled between the sea and river in the Kasaba region of Mangaluru taluk, have renewed their demand for reliable public transportation. With limited connectivity and only one private bus operating between Bengre and Bajpe during select hours, locals face daily commuting hardships.
Led by the CPI(M) Bengre area committee, citizens submitted a memorandum to Rajesh Shetty, senior divisional controller of KSRTC’s Mangaluru division, urging the introduction of government-operated bus services.
“There has been a long-pending demand for a dependable bus network in this region. The current private service is minimal and fails to meet the needs of the people,” said Teyyub Bengre, CPI(M) Mangaluru City South committee member. He emphasized the urgent need for KSRTC buses to serve Thota Bengre, Kasaba Bengre, and Tannirbhavi, which are not only residential zones but also hubs for tourism and fishing activities.
Teyyub proposed a route from Thota Bengre through Kasaba Bengre, Tannirbhavi, Kulur, Kottara, and Lal Bagh to key city points like the MCC office, DC’s office, and railway stations. He also called for bus connections from Bengre to other localities in Mangaluru.
Highlighting the social angle, he demanded free travel for women and female students in the region, similar to benefits offered elsewhere in the state.
