In the early hours of Tuesday, another case of dacoity was reported within the city commissionerate limits. A gang of four dacoits forcibly entered a house in Kottara around 3:30 AM. The house, occupied by an elderly couple whose children live and work overseas, was targeted for its valuables. The intruders, armed with weapons, assaulted the elderly man and stole the car keys before fleeing towards Udupi in the stolen vehicle.
The car was later found abandoned near the Hejmady toll gate, indicating that the dacoits parked their vehicle there to avoid police detection. The value of the looted items remains unknown, but a mobile phone, believed to belong to one of the dacoits, was discovered inside the car. This clue may aid the police in their investigation.
The elderly man, who was injured during the assault, has been hospitalized. Urwa police, along with senior officers, promptly arrived at the crime scene to initiate the investigation. Meanwhile, Mulky police tracked and recovered the stolen car. Efforts are underway to analyze CCTV footage from nearby houses and the highway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Sources close to the family revealed that the four dacoits communicated in Hindi and took ornaments while inflicting injuries on the elderly man. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of residents, particularly the elderly, and the need for enhanced security measures in the area.
