Dakshina Kannada: Dakshina Kannada accounts for 6% of Karnataka’s total higher education enrolment, while neighbouring Udupi contributes 2.44%, according to the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) 2023-24 released by the Union Ministry of Education.
Replying to a question in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar said Karnataka recorded a total higher education enrolment of 27,59,933 students during the 2023-24 academic year.
Dakshina Kannada and Udupi contribute over 8%
The survey data shows that Dakshina Kannada continues to be one of Karnataka’s major education hubs, accounting for 6% of the State’s higher education enrolment. Udupi’s share stood at 2.44%, taking the combined contribution of the two coastal districts to more than 8%.
The figures underscore the significant role played by the region’s universities, colleges and professional institutions in Karnataka’s higher education landscape.
AISHE tracks higher education trends
The All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) is conducted annually by the Union Ministry of Education to assess enrolment, infrastructure, faculty strength and other key indicators across higher education institutions in the country.
The latest survey provides policymakers with data to monitor the growth of the higher education sector and plan future educational initiatives.
