Mangaluru: In a milestone moment for rural India, the educational and healthcare hub of Deralakatte, located in Ullal taluk, Dakshina Kannada, has become home to the country’s first-ever shopping mall within a panchayat jurisdiction. Named Bearys Turning Point, the mall is a pioneering development in India’s semi-urban infrastructure space.

Sprawling over two lakh square feet, this state-of-the-art complex has transformed Deralakatte into a lifestyle destination for more than 25,000 students and 40,000 residents living within a 15-km radius. Earlier, locals had to travel about 20 km to Mangaluru for mall visits.

Developed by the reputed Bearys Group, the mall boasts a four-screen multiplex (700 seats), a multi-cuisine food court, and a family-friendly entertainment centre. Visitors can also enjoy facilities like a bowling alley, games arcade, and generous lounging areas. The inclusion of international outlets, including a Lulu supermarket, adds global appeal.

“The aim was to provide not just retail options but a full-fledged social and recreational experience for families, students, and working professionals,” shared Nand Kumar, head of retail operations.

Set against the scenic backdrop of Western Ghats foothills, Bearys Turning Point blends modernity with nature, offering a peaceful alternative to urban chaos.

During the inauguration, dignitaries like Kodi Mohammad Iqbal, Bapu Nainar, and Prafulla Pushparaj praised the development’s potential to elevate lifestyle standards and boost local connectivity.

This unique venture could set the tone for future developments in India’s panchayat regions.
