Beltangady: Dharmasthala police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged rape case registered on the basis of a complaint filed by a woman from the Dharmasthala police station limits. The accused was taken into custody following an investigation and has been remanded to judicial custody by a court.

According to police, the case was registered after the woman lodged a complaint on June 7 alleging that she had been sexually assaulted by a relative at her residence in 2023.

Complaint filed with police

As per the complaint, the accused, identified by police as Suresh, allegedly sexually assaulted the woman when she was alone at home during the night. The complainant further alleged that the accused had threatened her with serious consequences.

Following the complaint, Dharmasthala police initiated an investigation into the allegations and began collecting evidence related to the case.

Case registered under IPC sections

Based on the complaint, police registered a case under Crime No. 41/2026.

The case has been booked under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code (rape) and Section 506 (criminal intimidation). Police officials stated that the investigation was carried out in accordance with legal procedures following the registration of the case.

Accused produced before court

After completing preliminary investigations, police traced and apprehended the accused. He was subsequently produced before the court on June 9.

The court remanded the accused to judicial custody. Further investigation into the case is continuing.

Investigation underway

Police officials have stated that additional inquiries are being conducted as part of the ongoing investigation. Authorities have not disclosed further details considering the sensitive nature of the case.
