Mangaluru: DYFI national youth leader and West Bengal leader Comrade Dipsita Dhar visited the family of DYFI activist Varshit Kulal, who was declared brain-dead following a road accident in Kuthar and whose organs were donated by his family.
Dhar arrived in Mangaluru on Sunday to inaugurate the Dakshina Kannada district conference of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI). After reaching Mangaluru International Airport, she travelled directly to Varshit Kulal’s residence to meet his family and offer her condolences.
Dhar consoles bereaved family
During her visit, Dhar met Varshit’s family members and expressed her condolences over his death. She consoled the family and acknowledged the difficult circumstances following the road accident.
Varshit Kulal, a DYFI activist, had sustained critical injuries in a road accident at Kuthar. He was subsequently declared brain-dead.
Following his death, the family decided to donate his organs, enabling them to potentially benefit other patients in need of transplants.
Dhar expressed appreciation for the family’s decision to donate Varshit’s organs despite the emotional difficulty of the situation. She conveyed her solidarity with the bereaved family and paid tribute to Varshit’s contribution as a DYFI activist.
DYFI leaders accompany Dhar
Several Dakshina Kannada DYFI leaders accompanied Dhar during the visit.
Those present included DYFI district president B K Imtiyaz, district secretary Santosh Bajal and treasurer Manoj Vamanjoor.
District leaders Nithin Kuthar, Rizwan Harekal, Tayyub Bengre, Razak Mudipu, Sunil Thevula, Madhuri Bolara, Ajlan Bengre and Vinayak Mangaluru were also present.
The visit took place ahead of the DYFI Dakshina Kannada district conference, which Dhar was scheduled to inaugurate in Mangaluru on Sunday.
Family’s decision to donate organs appreciated
The decision by Varshit’s family to donate his organs came at a time of grief following his sudden death.
Organ donation following brain death can provide an opportunity for patients awaiting transplants to receive vital organs. The family’s decision was therefore acknowledged by Dhar and the DYFI leaders during their visit.
The visit also highlighted the bond between Varshit and the organisation, with DYFI leaders standing by his family following the tragedy.
Dhar’s visit to the family was her first engagement after arriving in Mangaluru for the district conference. Rather than proceeding directly to the conference-related programme, she travelled from the airport to Varshit’s residence to meet the bereaved family.
The DYFI district conference was scheduled to bring together youth representatives and district-level leaders to discuss issues concerning young people and the organisation’s activities in Dakshina Kannada.
The visit to Varshit’s family preceded the organisational programme and reflected the DYFI leadership’s engagement with the family following the activist’s death.
