Kadaba: A domestic dispute reportedly turned violent at Kudmaru on Sunday, September 6, after a man allegedly assaulted his wife during an argument and later consumed poison.
The woman, identified as 38-year-old Suchithra P J, has lodged a complaint with the police against her husband, Chidananda K, a resident of Kudmaru.
Argument allegedly escalates into assault
According to the complaint, Suchithra and Chidananda have been married for around four years. On the morning of September 6, the couple reportedly got into a heated argument at their residence.
The disagreement allegedly escalated, with Chidananda assaulting Suchithra. The impact reportedly caused her to collapse.
Neighbours who noticed the situation immediately intervened and came to her assistance. She was subsequently taken to the government hospital in Sullia for medical treatment.
The incident has led to a police case, with authorities beginning an investigation based on the allegations made in the complaint.
Husband consumes poison
Shortly after the alleged assault, Chidananda reportedly consumed poison and fell seriously ill.
He was also taken for medical treatment and is currently undergoing treatment at a hospital. His medical condition and treatment will be monitored by the authorities while the investigation into the incident continues.
Police have said that further legal action against Chidananda will be initiated after he is discharged from the hospital.
Bellare police register case
Acting on Suchithra’s complaint, Bellare police registered Crime No. 56/2026.
The case has been registered under Sections 85, 115(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and the subsequent poisoning incident. Further action will be taken in accordance with the investigation and the applicable legal provisions.
As the case is based on allegations contained in the complaint, the charges remain subject to investigation and judicial proceedings.
Investigation underway
The incident has brought attention to the escalation of a domestic disagreement into an alleged physical assault and a subsequent poisoning incident.
