Moodbidri: A car driver had a miraculous escape after the vehicle overturned near Aikala close to Kinnigoli on Thursday, May 7. Despite the impact of the accident, the driver escaped without sustaining any injuries.
According to sources, the car bearing registration number KA-20 was travelling from Pakshikere towards Moodbidri with only the driver inside the vehicle at the time of the incident.
The accident reportedly occurred after the driver lost control while negotiating a turn on the rain-soaked road. Officials and local sources stated that oil residue mixed with rainwater on the road surface may have made the stretch extremely slippery, leading to the mishap.
Vehicle overturns after hitting roadside tree
Witnesses said the driver was unable to control the vehicle while taking the curve near Aikala. The car reportedly skidded, overturned, and eventually crashed into a roadside tree.
The impact caused damage to the vehicle, but the driver managed to escape safely from the overturned car. Local residents and passersby rushed to the spot immediately after the accident and assisted at the scene.
Fortunately, no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the incident.
Rain and oil residue suspected behind accident
Sources indicated that rainfall earlier in the morning had created slippery road conditions in the area. The presence of oil residue on the road is suspected to have further reduced tyre grip, making driving hazardous, especially along bends and curves.
Motorists travelling through the stretch have been advised to drive cautiously during rainy conditions, particularly on roads where water and oil deposits can accumulate.
Local residents stated that such slippery conditions often develop during the first spells of rain after hot weather, increasing the risk of skidding accidents.
Driver escapes without injuries
Despite the severity of the accident and the vehicle overturning, the driver escaped completely unhurt, which locals described as a fortunate outcome.
No injuries were reported, and the driver was safely moved away from the damaged vehicle. The accident caused temporary concern among commuters using the route, though traffic movement in the area was later restored.
Authorities are expected to examine the road conditions and circumstances surrounding the incident.
Safety reminder for motorists
The incident once again highlights the importance of cautious driving during wet weather conditions. Experts advise motorists to reduce speed while approaching curves, maintain safe braking distance, and remain alert on roads affected by rainwater and oil residue.
Drivers are also encouraged to regularly inspect tyre conditions and avoid sudden braking or sharp turns on slippery surfaces to minimise accident risks during the monsoon and pre-monsoon season.
