Mangaluru – The Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI), Urvastor unit, organised a protest today demanding the immediate repair of the Urvastor–Kodikal–Sunkadakatte main road, which has been left in a highly damaged state with numerous potholes.

Addressing the gathering, DYFI District President B.K. Imtiaz criticised the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) for its negligence, stating that the poor road conditions have made daily commuting dangerous, particularly for youth and two-wheeler riders.

“It is unfortunate that people in a city like Mangaluru have to take to the streets just to demand basic road maintenance,” he remarked.

Local concerns highlighted

DYFI leader Rajesh Kulal emphasised the hardships faced by residents, noting that the muddy and uneven road has become nearly unwalkable for children and women, especially during rainy days. He demanded that the MCC take immediate steps to restore the road to a usable condition.

Support from various groups

Leaders from several organisations, including the construction workers’ association, rickshaw drivers’ association, and the Dalit Rights Committee, extended support to the protest. Key participants included Manoj Kulal, Prakash, Umashankar, Iqbal, Raghuveer, and DYFI leaders Puneet Sudhakar, Sukesh, Pradeep Kulal, Prashant Acharya, Prashant M.B, Nityanand, Kishore, Sanath, and others.

Demand for quick action

The protesters submitted a demand to the civic authorities, warning that if the issue is not addressed immediately, the agitation would intensify in the coming days.
