A team of engineering students from Alva’s Engineering College, in collaboration with faculty and Dakshina Kannada district administration, has created an innovative crowdfunding platform named Namagagi. This initiative, aimed at improving government schools in the district, allows donors to support schools in need of infrastructure and facilities.

The portal was crafted under the guidance of Pradeep Nayak from the Department of Information Science and Engineering. District Collector Mullai Muhilan MP originally proposed the idea, which was developed further with inputs from Vivek Alva, managing trustee of Alva’s Education Foundation. After four months of planning, the team brought the portal to life with the slogan, “Nimma Sahaya, Namma Belavanige” (Your Help, Our Growth). On November 1, the initiative was presented to District Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao, who commended the project.

The initial phase enables donors to browse schools requiring financial assistance for repairs or improvements. Verified project costs are uploaded for transparency, allowing donors to contribute directly or coordinate with school administrators. Looking ahead, a dedicated bank account will be established, and future updates will expand the portal to support anganwadis, government hostels, and other institutions.

This groundbreaking project, developed by students Shreyas Bhandari, Sampath GM, Prathiksha Jain, Syed Saleha, and Muhammed Yamin, aims to connect well-wishers and former students with schools in need.
