As per the directions of Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, all preparatory activities against natural disasters have been enhanced in Dakshina Kannada, according to Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan MP. Addressing reporters on Thursday, he announced that task forces have been formed for each ward of the gram panchayats and urban local bodies in the district.
The decentralised task forces will operate under incident commanders in each ward, with respective PDOs and chief officers acting as the incident commanders for rural and urban areas. These commanders will identify vulnerable houses and take immediate action to relocate residents to safer zones. Additionally, they have the authority to restrict public access to dangerous footbridges and beaches.
Mullai Muhilan emphasized that the primary aim is to prevent the loss of life. He also mentioned that legal action will be taken against those who violate orders and access vulnerable areas. Incident commanders will provide real-time updates to all departments, ensuring effective disaster management, particularly at seashores, footbridges, streams, and other prone areas.
