Mangaluru – Former Surathkal MLA Mohiuddin Bava has strongly questioned the motive and timing behind a police complaint filed against him, nearly 26 hours after he visited the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPT) office to follow up on a contractor’s pending bill.

Speaking to reporters at a private hotel, Bava clarified that he had gone to the NMPT premises on June 9 to inquire about a payment of ₹2.6 crore due to a sub-contractor from Nikith Construction. Of this, ₹1.5 crore was still unpaid, though the chief engineer had reportedly cleared the amount, withholding only ₹5 lakh. Bava said he was advised to meet the deputy chairperson for final clearance.

“I waited outside her office while she was in a meeting. Later, I politely approached her and requested the release of the cleared payment. I greeted her with folded hands and spoke respectfully,” Bava said.

He expressed shock that a complaint was filed the following night, accusing him of misbehavior and obstruction. “I treated her like an elder sister. If I have done anything wrong, let the CCTV footage be examined. I am ready to face any punishment—even death—if proven guilty,” he said firmly.

Bava alleged the complaint was politically motivated and possibly filed under pressure. He promised to file a counter-complaint with the police commissioner, urging an investigation and verification of video evidence and staff statements.
