Mangaluru, Jun 19: A significant mix-up occurred when police erroneously informed the family of a patient, Shekar Gowda (55), that he had passed away, even though he was still alive and receiving treatment at Wenlock Hospital. Shekar Gowda, from the Dharmasthala police jurisdiction, was admitted to Wenlock Hospital on June 15 due to severe health issues and was unconscious at the time. With no relatives present, the hospital reported his condition to the Pandeshwar police station.
The Pandeshwar police station’s report, which accurately described Shekar Gowda’s critical condition, was forwarded to the Beltangady police station and then to the Dharmasthala police station. However, an error occurred when the Pandeshwar police mistakenly typed ‘deceased’ in the subject line of the email.
Upon reading the email’s subject, the Dharmasthala police mistakenly believed that Shekar Gowda had died and conveyed this incorrect information to his relatives. The family, along with Dharmasthala police, visited Wenlock Hospital only to find Shekar Gowda still alive. Dr. Jacinta, the medical superintendent at Wenlock Hospital, explained that the mistake in the email’s subject line led to this confusion, despite the report correctly mentioning his critical condition.
