Mangaluru: Father Muller Medical College Hospital (FMMCH), a unit of Father Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI), has commissioned the FUJIFILM Advanced 4K Multi-LED Endoscope System, further strengthening its gastroenterology services with advanced diagnostic technology.

The new endoscopy system was blessed and inaugurated at the hospital’s Gastro Suite (Room 3) on Friday in the presence of the FMCI Management Committee, faculty members, residents, nursing personnel, and staff from the Departments of Surgical and Medical Gastroenterology.

Advanced technology to improve patient care

The commissioning ceremony was led by Rev. Fr. Faustine Lucas Lobo, Director of Father Muller Charitable Institutions, who inaugurated and blessed the state-of-the-art equipment.

Addressing the gathering, he said the institution has continued to introduce advanced medical technologies with the objective of improving patient care and clinical outcomes.

“Technology must always translate into better healing and better clinical outcomes. Every sophisticated machine we acquire should help us serve our patients with greater precision, compassion and efficiency. Our mission of ‘Heal and Comfort’ must be experienced by every patient who walks into this hospital,” he said.

High-definition imaging for early diagnosis

Providing an overview of the newly commissioned system, Dr. Ganesh M. K., Professor and Head of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, said the FUJIFILM Advanced 4K Multi-LED Endoscope System, equipped with the ELUXEO 8000 Processor, is among the most advanced endoscopic imaging platforms available in the region.

According to him, the system offers ultra-high-definition 4K imaging, Multi-LED illumination technology, enhanced visualisation modes for the early detection of gastrointestinal lesions, improved colour reproduction, and better assessment of blood vessels and mucosal surfaces. These features are expected to assist clinicians in identifying gastrointestinal abnormalities with greater precision.

Department expands specialised services

During the programme, Dr. Ganesh M. K. also announced the strengthening of the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology through the establishment of two specialised units:

  • Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary and Liver Transplant Unit, headed by Dr. Ganesh M. K.
  • Colorectal Proctology Unit, headed by Dr. Nagarjun Rao H. T.

The hospital said these dedicated units are expected to further enhance the scope of advanced gastrointestinal surgical care offered at Father Muller Hospital.

Ceremony attended by faculty and hospital administrators

The programme began with a welcome address by Dr. Nagarjun Rao H. T., Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, who also compered the event. The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Abhijna Soori, Assistant Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology.

Among those present were Dr. Sudheer K., Associate Professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology; Dr. Ganaraj Kulamarva, Medical Gastroenterologist; and Dr. Shiva Prasad, Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist.

The event was also attended by Rev. Dr. Michael Santhumayor, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College; Rev. Fr. George Jeevan Sequeira, Administrator, Father Muller Medical College Hospital; Dr. Antony Sylvan D’Souza, Dean, Father Muller Medical College; Dr. Uday Kumar, Medical Superintendent; Dr. Kishan Shetty, Additional Medical Superintendent; Dr. Kelvin Peter Pais, Liaison Officer, FMCI; Sr. Nancy Mathias, Chief Nursing Officer; along with faculty members, residents, nursing staff, and technical personnel.

The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, which also offers the M.Ch. Surgical Gastroenterology programme, has continued to expand its capabilities in advanced gastrointestinal care, research, and medical education. The commissioning of the new endoscopy system marks another step in the hospital’s efforts to strengthen patient-centred healthcare through modern technology.
