Mangaluru: A fire broke out at a car alteration centre in the Falnir area of the city on Monday morning, damaging three vehicles and several items inside the premises. The incident was reported at around 7.30 am, prompting a swift response from fire and emergency services.

According to initial reports, the vehicles had been left at the workshop for alteration work and were completely gutted in the blaze. In addition to the cars, various tools, equipment, and spare parts stored inside the shop were also destroyed, leading to significant material loss.

Suspected short circuit triggers fire

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit. Officials indicated that the blaze likely originated from an electrical fault within the premises, which quickly spread due to the presence of flammable materials typically found in automobile workshops.

However, authorities stated that the exact cause of the fire will be confirmed only after a detailed inspection and technical assessment by the concerned departments.

Fire services respond swiftly

Local residents were the first to notice smoke billowing from the shop and immediately alerted the Fire and Emergency Services. Acting promptly, fire personnel from the Pandeshwar Fire Station rushed to the spot and initiated firefighting operations.

The team managed to bring the blaze under control in a timely manner, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings and averting a potentially larger disaster in the densely populated area.

Officials said the quick response played a crucial role in containing the damage within the workshop premises.

No casualties reported

Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident, as the workshop was unoccupied at the time of the fire. This significantly reduced the risk to human life, even though the property damage was considerable.

Authorities noted that such incidents highlight the importance of adhering to safety standards, especially in commercial establishments dealing with electrical equipment and combustible materials.

Extent of damage under assessment

The exact extent of the financial loss is yet to be determined. Officials are expected to conduct a thorough evaluation of the damage to the vehicles, machinery, and infrastructure inside the workshop.

Further investigation is also underway to assess whether proper safety measures, including electrical safeguards and fire prevention systems, were in place at the time of the incident.

Conclusion

While the timely intervention of fire personnel helped contain the blaze and prevent casualties, the incident serves as a reminder of the risks associated with electrical faults in commercial establishments. Authorities are likely to emphasise stricter adherence to safety norms to avoid similar incidents in the future.
