Two rubber smoke houses were completely gutted in a fire at Posolike in Dharmasthala village during the early hours of Wednesday, September 2, causing an estimated loss of Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh.
The smoke houses belonged to local resident P K Job and were situated close to his residence. The fire reportedly broke out in the early hours, following which efforts were made to bring the blaze under control.
Rubber sheets and timber destroyed
Despite attempts to contain the fire, both structures were completely destroyed. Rubber sheets kept inside the smoke houses for drying were damaged in the blaze, along with timber stored within the buildings.
The fire caused extensive damage to the two structures and the materials kept inside them. The overall loss has been estimated at between Rs 5 lakh and Rs 6 lakh.
The incident has caused concern among residents as the smoke houses were located near the house, although no information about injuries or casualties has been reported.
