Mangaluru: Police arrested four persons on Monday in connection with a sword attack on a youth at Edapadavu, cracking the case within four hours of the incident. The arrested have been identified as Sinan of Mangaluru Port area, Irshad of Venur, Suhail Akram of Vamanjoor, and Nisan of Pilikula, Vamanjoor.

Youth attacked after filming accused on two-wheeler

According to police, the victim, Akhilesh, a resident of Edapadavu Poopadikallu, was travelling from Poopadikallu towards Mangaluru when he noticed four men riding a single two-wheeler while carrying knives. Sensing suspicious activity, he attempted to record a video on his mobile phone.

The accused spotted him filming and allegedly confronted him on the road. They then attacked him with weapons, causing injuries to his hand. Locals in the area rushed to help and managed to apprehend one of the men at the spot. He was identified as Sinan and was immediately handed over to the police. Akhilesh was shifted to a hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries.

Fast arrests by Bajpe police and CCB

Based on the complaint, a case was registered at the Bajpe Police Station. Following Sinan’s detention by the public, Bajpe police swiftly tracked down and arrested Irshad. Suhail Akram and Nisan were later arrested by the Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB), ensuring all four accused were in custody within four hours of the attack.

Police Commissioner stated that two of the accused—Akram and Nisan—already have criminal backgrounds, including cases related to ganja (cannabis). Due to this, they have been additionally booked under the NDPS Act along with attempted murder charges.

Accused have extensive criminal histories

According to police, Sinan is a habitual offender with seven criminal cases registered against him across various stations in the district. These include cases related to theft, transportation and sale of ganja, and attempted murder.

Irshad, Akram, and Nisan also have multiple cases against them, primarily involving theft and ganja-related offences. Police said their swift arrest was crucial in preventing further criminal activity and ensuring public safety in the region.
