The Public Works Department (PWD) will commence development of the four-lane road stretch from Pumpwell Circle to Karavali Junction from February 15, with work expected to continue for four months.

City Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has urged the public to cooperate, noting that construction activities and route modifications may lead to temporary traffic disruptions.

One-way system and key diversions

During the project period, the road from Pumpwell Circle to Kankanady Old Road–Kankanady Junction (leading into the city) and the stretch from Karavali Junction to Pumpwell Circle (leading out of the city) will function as one-way roads. This arrangement may result in congestion during peak hours.

Vehicles travelling from Pumpwell Junction towards Karavali Junction will be diverted via Kankanady Old Road.

All vehicles entering Mangaluru from Talapady and Thokkottu are advised to use alternative routes through Mahakalipadpu RuB, Morgan’s Gate, Koti Chennaya Circle, or via the Mangaladevi Temple road.

Heavy vehicles, other vehicles and KSRTC buses travelling from BC Road towards Lalbagh and the KSRTC bus stand should proceed from Padil Junction towards Nanthoor.

Similarly, heavy vehicles and KSRTC buses arriving from Kerala must move from Pumpwell Junction towards Nanthoor instead of entering the city centre directly.

Vehicles coming from the inner parts of the city towards Pumpwell via Karavali Junction may continue to use the existing route without changes.

Parking restrictions in place

To facilitate smooth traffic flow, parking has been prohibited on both sides of the following roads:

  • Kankanady Junction–Pumpwell Road (Kankanady Old Road)
  • Karavali Junction–Kankanady Road
  • Kankanady–Falnir Highland Hospital Road
  • Karavali Junction–Balmath Road
  • Kankanady Bypass Road

Police have appealed to motorists to follow signages and traffic personnel instructions to ensure safety and minimise inconvenience during the development phase.
