Kadaba: Gold jewellery weighing around 75 grams and valued at approximately Rs 6 lakh was stolen from a house at Addahole in Shiradi village of Kadaba taluk on Thursday night.

The burglary came to light after the house owner returned home from a church feast and found that the residence had been broken into.

Rear door lock broken

According to the complaint filed with the police, unidentified persons allegedly broke open the lock of the rear door of the house and entered the premises.

The accused reportedly searched the house before fleeing with gold ornaments.

Shalini, wife of late Thomas K S and a resident of Kakkuttil House in Addahole, approached the police after discovering the theft.

Jewellery weighing 75 grams stolen

The stolen ornaments, according to the complaint, included three gold bangles weighing 25 grams, a six-gram gold bracelet, a 20-gram gold necklace and a 24-gram gold chain.

The total weight of the stolen jewellery is around 75 grams, with its estimated value put at approximately Rs 6 lakh.

The incident has caused concern in the locality, particularly as the theft occurred while the resident was away from the house for a few hours.

House burgled while resident was away

Shalini was reportedly the only person residing in the house.

She left the residence at around 6 pm on Thursday to attend a church feast. When she returned at approximately 10 pm, she noticed that the house had been burgled.

After checking the premises and finding the gold jewellery missing, she informed the police and lodged a complaint.

The manner in which the burglars gained entry, by allegedly breaking open the rear door lock, has become part of the police investigation.

Uppinangady police begin investigation

Based on Shalini’s complaint, Uppinangady police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.

Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the burglary and are likely to gather information regarding the movements of people in and around the locality during the period when the house was unattended.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for residents to exercise caution while leaving houses unattended, particularly in isolated residential locations.
