Bantwal: Former Member of Parliament from North Mumbai, Gopal C. Shetty, paid a personal visit to the residence of Suhas Shetty, the slain Hindu activist from Bantwal, to offer his condolences to the bereaved family.

Speaking to reporters, Gopal Shetty expressed deep grief and concern over the incident. “Suhas Shetty was related to me, and this inhuman murder is highly condemnable. I am deeply saddened by the political situation in Karnataka,” he said. Criticising the deteriorating law and order, he added, “The fact that thousands of murders happen in Karnataka annually, and over a hundred in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts alone, is a worrying sign for our state’s culture. The government must act swiftly to prevent such tragedies.

Political and community support

Shetty’s visit drew the attention of local BJP leaders and members of the public who gathered to support the grieving family. Among those present were Ermal Harish Shetty, Vice President of BJP North Mumbai District, Usha Gopal Shetty, and BJP leaders and activists from across regions.

The visit underscored the growing concerns over targeted attacks and communal tensions in coastal Karnataka, with political leaders demanding firmer action from the state government to curb violence and maintain public order.
