Puttur: A case of grave desecration at a Christian burial ground in Anemajalu, near Bannur on the outskirts of Puttur taluk, has prompted a formal investigation by the Puttur City Police.

The incident came to light when Fr. Balthazar Pinto, the priest of St. Anthony Church, Bannur, lodged a complaint with the police on June 14, alleging that unknown individuals had damaged a grave within the cemetery premises. He urged immediate action against those responsible for the act of vandalism.

Following the complaint, officers from the Puttur City Police Station, including the station inspector, visited the site for inspection. The Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police confirmed through an official press release that a case has been registered, and a detailed inquiry is in progress to identify and apprehend the culprits involved.

Police have begun collecting evidence and statements and are pursuing various leads. Authorities have assured the local community that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty of disturbing the sanctity of the burial site.
