Mangaluru: The City Crime Branch (CCB) of the Mangaluru City Police Commissionerate has arrested a habitual offender who had been absconding for nearly two years and evading court appearances in multiple criminal cases across the city.

The accused has been identified as Faraz alias Mohammed Faraz (32), a resident of Deralakatte. He was wanted in around 10 criminal cases registered at various police stations in Mangaluru.

Multiple serious cases registered

According to police officials, the cases against Faraz include serious charges such as robbery, attempt to murder, drug peddling, theft, and assault on prison officials while obstructing them from performing their duties.

After securing bail in earlier cases, the accused reportedly failed to appear before the court and had been on the run since then, prompting authorities to intensify efforts to trace him.

Police records indicate that four cases — including attempt to murder, robbery, assault, and theft — are registered at Ullal police station. Two cases each are registered at Konaje and North police stations, involving charges such as assault, criminal intimidation, theft, kidnapping, and robbery.

In addition, one case each is registered at Barke police station for attempt to murder and obstruction of public servants, and at Urwa police station for drug peddling.

Rowdy-sheeter with pending warrants

Faraz has been listed as a rowdy-sheeter at Ullal police station, highlighting his history of repeated criminal activity. Police confirmed that as many as six warrants and one proclamation were pending against him at the time of his arrest.

His continued absence from court proceedings had made him a high-priority target for law enforcement agencies in the region.

Arrest operation and further action

The arrest was carried out by a dedicated team of officers and staff from the CCB unit, following sustained efforts to track down the accused. Officials have not disclosed specific details of the operation but confirmed that he had been evading authorities for an extended period.

Following his arrest, Faraz has been handed over to Urwa police station for further legal proceedings. Authorities are expected to initiate action to address the pending warrants and ensure his production before the court.

Conclusion

The arrest of the absconding offender marks a significant step in strengthening law enforcement efforts in Mangaluru. Police officials reiterated their commitment to tracking down individuals who attempt to evade the judicial process and maintaining law and order in the city.
