In a tumultuous turn of events, Bantwal taluk was besieged by heavy rainfall on June 3rd, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake. Reports indicate significant damage to property and injuries to individuals across the region.

In Kodambettu village, three women encountered a terrifying ordeal while tending to their tasks in a garden. Anita Pujari (38) and sisters Leelavati (32) and Mohini (30) were struck by lightning, resulting in injuries. Swift action was taken to transport them to Bantwal Taluk Hospital, where they received initial treatment before being transferred to a hospital in Mangaluru. Thankfully, all three are reported to be in stable condition and on the path to recovery.

The wrath of the storm extended beyond personal injury to property damage. Jai Lakshmi’s arecanut and coconut tree plantation in Kulal, Irvattur village, bore the brunt of the adverse weather conditions, suffering substantial losses. Meanwhile, in the same vicinity, the home of Premalatha in Kulal faced damage when a coconut tree collapsed onto her property.

Further instances of destruction emerged from Pangalpadi, Azzibettu village, Vamadapadau, where the residences of Shobha and Appi fell victim to lightning strikes. The resulting damage included losses to electrical appliances, switches, and wiring, compounding the challenges faced by the affected households.

Responding to the crisis, the Revenue Department, under the directive of the tahsildar office, swiftly initiated measures to address the aftermath. Assessment of the damage and provision of necessary assistance to those affected were promptly undertaken, reflecting a concerted effort to mitigate the impact of the natural disaster.
