In Mangalore, Karnataka, heavy rains wreaked havoc, resulting in damage to property and tragic incidents. According to Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, at around 9:30 pm on Tuesday, a branch from a tree fell on two vehicles parked near the Karangalapadi area, causing significant damage. Mangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (MESCOM) officials promptly responded, clearing the affected area.

Tragically, on Monday, a seven-year-old student lost their life when the compound wall of a school in Newpadpu, Harekala, collapsed.

The pre-monsoon showers have been relentless in Mangaluru and Udupi, the coastal twin districts, inundating several areas. Beltangady, Mundaje, Charmady, Guruvayanakere, Koyyuru, Madyantharu, and Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada experienced heavy rainfall. Similarly, Udupi city area, Manipal, Kundapur, Tekkatte, Basruru, and Karkala in Udupi district witnessed substantial rainfall.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow alert from May 19 to 22, forecasting continued rainfall. Fishermen were cautioned against venturing into the sea from May 18 to 22 due to a potential low-pressure system forming in the Bay of Bengal, which could create turbulence in the Arabian Sea. In response, the Dakshina Kannada district administration directed all fishing boats in the deep sea to return to shore immediately.
