A delegation from the United Forum of All Hindu Organisations has submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner and IGP of Western Range, demanding urgent action against the Dakshina Kannada police for alleged harassment of Hindu activists under the guise of maintaining communal harmony.
Sri Vidyasaraswati Swamiji, president of Bharat Sant Samiti (Karnataka), accused the police of creating a climate of fear and infringing upon citizens’ right to privacy and dignity. The forum claims that over the past week, Hindu activists were summoned late at night without official notice, subjected to home searches, and photographed without consent. In some cases, elderly daily-wage workers with no activist background were reportedly targeted.
The delegation also alleged abuse of social media surveillance, where posts by Hindu individuals have been met with FIRs and arrests, amounting to suppression of free speech.
Citing violations of Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Constitution, and relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the forum has called for a high-level investigation into the actions of senior police officials.
The memorandum further demanded compensation and written apologies for the harassed elderly, legal protection for Hindu leaders facing death threats, and swift action against perpetrators of violence during Abdul Rehman’s funeral.
Raising alarm over the alleged resurgence of banned outfit PFI under new banners, the forum urged for a tougher crackdown on its suspected members involved in crimes like the murder of Suhas Shetty.
