Mangaluru: In a moment of pride for the medical fraternity in coastal Karnataka, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (UK) has conferred the prestigious Honorary Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP) on B. V. Manjunath, Professor and Head of Cardiology and Chief Interventional Cardiologist at A. J. Hospital & Research Centre.

The rare international honour has been awarded in recognition of Dr Manjunath’s outstanding academic achievements, clinical excellence, and lifelong contribution to cardiology and medical education.

A rare and highly selective international honour

The Honorary FRCP is distinct from examination-based fellowships and is regarded as one of the most selective recognitions in global medicine. It is awarded only to senior physicians who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to clinical practice, academics, research, and mentorship. Each year, the Royal College confers this honour on only a limited number of physicians worldwide — up to 15 — following a rigorous nomination and voting process by its members.

This fellowship signifies global peer recognition and places the recipient among an elite group of internationally respected medical professionals.

Over three decades of service to cardiology

Dr B. V. Manjunath brings with him more than 36 years of experience in the field of cardiology. His illustrious career includes extensive work in interventional cardiology, with the successful performance of a large number of complex procedures in the cardiac catheterisation laboratory.

He has contributed significantly to medical research, with numerous national and international publications and conference presentations to his credit. Dr Manjunath has also served as a PhD guide and University Examiner, playing a vital role in shaping academic standards and advancing cardiology education in India.

Mentor and academic leader

Widely respected as a mentor, Dr Manjunath has guided and trained several graduates, postgraduates, and DM Cardiology fellows over the years. His commitment to teaching and clinical training has helped nurture a new generation of cardiologists who continue to contribute to patient care and research across the country.

Colleagues describe him as a clinician-academic who combines technical excellence with compassionate patient care, setting high standards in both clinical outcomes and professional ethics.

Formal convocation later this year

The Honorary FRCP will be formally conferred at a special Royal College Convocation scheduled to be held later this year in the United Kingdom. The ceremony will mark international recognition of Dr Manjunath’s contributions and further strengthen academic and professional ties between Indian cardiology and global medical institutions.

A. J. Hospital & Research Centre has expressed immense pride in this achievement, noting that the honour reflects not only Dr Manjunath’s individual excellence but also the growing global recognition of Indian medical expertise.
