Mangaluru: A domestic worker accused of stealing gold jewellery from the house where she was employed has been arrested by Mangaluru police within 24 hours of the complaint being lodged. Swift police action also led to the recovery of the stolen ornaments.
Theft discovered after worker left
According to police, the accused had recently begun working as a domestic helper at a residence in the city. After she left the house, the family noticed that gold jewellery kept inside the home was missing.
Suspecting theft, the house owner approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on the information provided, officers immediately launched an investigation.
Police trace accused within a day
A special team collected technical and local intelligence, analysed available evidence and traced the accused within 24 hours. During interrogation, the woman allegedly confessed to stealing the jewellery.
Police recovered the stolen gold ornaments from her possession. The total value of the recovered property is yet to be officially disclosed.
Investigation continues
The accused has been taken into custody and booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). She was produced before the court, and further investigation is underway to ascertain whether she was involved in any similar theft cases.
Police have appreciated the prompt response of the investigating team, stating that the quick detection of the case helped recover the stolen valuables before they could be disposed of.
Authorities have also advised residents to verify the identity and background of domestic workers before employing them and to keep valuable items securely stored as a precautionary measure.
